There are many hormonal protocols, applied through reproductive biotechnologies, which can generate favorable results, if optimal conditions are used, managing cyclicity, seasonality, nutrition and health. Regarding the induction of estrus in cattle and buffaloes using prostaglandins was used. These PGF2α have a luteolytic effect on the luteal body and will induce increased pituitary gonadotrophin secretion within 2-3 days of application. Buffaloes that respond to PGF treatment are those that have a regular cycle and have a luteal activity within 11 days. In the case of our study, a single dose of PGF therapy was initiated, following the occurrence of estrus after 2-3 days. After the first administration of PGF, 6/24 females were diagnosed in the estrous phase, representing 25%. The objectives of this study were to assess the risk factors for clinical endometritis and its subsequent effects on reproductive performance in Holstein Friesian cows. The study was conducted in two dairy farms from Belgium, where 682 animals were enrolled, during two years of study. All data were processed using IBM SPSS Statistics version 17. The Pearson correlation revealed positive correlations between endometrits and postpartum disorders like dystocia, placental retention, milk fever, metritis and ovarian pathologies (persistent corpus luteum) (p<0.01). As expected, a moderate positive correlation was found between endometritis and voluntary waiting period (p<0.05). Regarding the analyzed reproductive indices, endometritis was positively correlated with reproduction period, service period, calving interval and inseminations number/pregnancy (p<0.01). A negative correlation was found between endometritis and pregnancy rate (p<0.05) as well as other weak correlations between this pathology and other parameters taken under study. The present study includes 48 dogs, with different backgrounds, both privately owned and dogs from shelters. We searched for predisposing factors for contacting sarcoptic mange, such as: age, sex, breed, source of contamination. Their age ranged from 1.15 months to 12 years (with more than a half being under 1 year old), they were mostly common or cross-breed dogs, and the sex ratio was almost equal, with 25 females and 23 males. All dogs were naturally infected with Sarcoptes scabiei, as confirmed by identification on the microscope of skin scrapings from different body areas. Furthermore, we aimed to have a general idea concerning the severity of infection with Sarcoptes scabiei in the dogs we studied. The dogs received a clinical score based on the evaluation of typical signs that appear in sarcoptic mange such as alopecia, erythema, scales/crusts and the extent of mange on the cutaneous surface on different body parts (head, trunk, legs, tail). The most affected body part was the head, followed by the trunk and the most scored sign was the extent of affected skin and alopecia. This specific calibration methods allowed to calculate ISI for all other thromboplastines comparative with the reference thromboplastine. Bigger values than 1 show a decrease sensitivity, as compared with the reference thromboplastine. The Prothrombin Time (PT) values are not the same in all laboratory because of differences in sensitivity of thromboplastins used. To standardize the same results in any laboratory, an INR (International Normalised Ratio) constant has been introduced. Today, major trauma associated with operations is minimal due to modern techniques, but nevertheless, the patient's body requires a recovery period, and nutrition is one of the important elements that can speed up the process of healing in many ways, by providing the necessary protein and energy to the body. Pain relief as well as balancing the body after surgery, especially in serious situations, is important for the patient's well-being and comfort, as they contribute to its faster and more effective recovery. The postoperative period in animals requires special attention to the pursuit of the operated patient and the immediate treatment of possible imbalances and complications that may occur. Pain, hypothermia, shock, vomiting, nerve phenomena (excessive vocalizations) are the main phenomena that unspeakable patients manifest in the postoperative period. The mechanisms for the production and maintenance of nocyceps are multiple, tolerance for pain is an individual parameter in relation to the age, gender, terrain and mental state of the patient. Transfusion therapy is a major resource that can improve the patient's capability to overcome the underlying disease. As veterinary critical care becomes more frequently used, the advantages of a basic knowledge of transfusion therapy and blood banking increased. The most cogent argument supporting component therapy is that blood is a precious resource considering its therapeutic potential and the logistics and costs required in obtaining and delivering blood products. The objective of this article is to discuss and offer current knowledge on blood transfusion and its allied practices in dogs including blood donor screening, blood typing, storing blood and crossmatching tests. The tapeworm occurs in dogs, with the intermediate life cycle stage (the ‘hydatid cyst’) forming in many warm-blooded animals as well as in humans. This case study consists in post slaughter examination of a sow raised in a sheep small farm. The sow was slaughtered because of progressive weakening. The results of necropsy and histology exams revealed the Echinococcus granulosus infection. In the 2-year-old sow carcass, multiple vesicular, whitish, variable-sized lesions, between 2 and 4 cm in diameter, were seen in the liver parenchyma. The definitive host of Echinococcus gransulosus is the dog, who has the taenia in its small intestine and excretes embryonated eggs in its scat. The intermediate hosts can be various, usually sheep, but we can also find it in pigs, among others, as well as people, as it is a zoonosis. This development has generated new types of issues, due to the production of food at industrial scale. In order to cope with food and nutrition illnesses and to restore consumer confidence in food safety, the European Commission has launched a series of new legislative amendments on food safety (Marin V. et al, 2007). The Good Hygiene Practices Guide in restaurants establishes, according to the legislation in force, a set of rules referring to the part of food hygiene, which must be followed and applied in restaurants. Potential risks of contamination of food and/or beverages are identified in these plans and a series of measures are developed to prevent these risks. The plan also includes the hygiene rules that must be observed by the employees and the kitchen staff. Operators operating in the field of food must guarantee for its products, comply with the legislative requirements and permanently implement these requirements, in order to release for consumption safe products for the final consumer. The purpose of this paper is to keep in mind the scope of this study focusing on the storage, handling, processing and distribution of all products, including the cooked product to be consumed. Thus, all biological, chemical or physical hazards that may occur during the cooking process of the product are taken into account. Over the years, science has also critically looked at e.g. reproducibility and translational issues and implemented improvements of which the public is not always aware. In addition, the relation between (some) animal experiments and human health is not always understood by the critical community. Due to aggressive actions towards some research establishments, communication about animal experiments has not always been the obvious answer. On the other hand, examples have shown, that transparency and openness lead to better understanding of the public about the why of animal experiments, but also about the strict regulations under which animal experiments have to be performed. In most cases where an open communication with the general public has become a fundamental policy, some understanding and a dialogue, also with the more extreme NGO’s, replaced aggressiveness towards scientists. This article proposes several activities with respect to communication about animal experiments for public institutes and universities. One of these is that a group of experts should be established, with different backgrounds with respect to animal experiments and communication skills. The establishment of an Animal Experiments Communication Group has shown to be crucial for appropriate communication in different situations. Activities focussed on different communication strategies are discussed. Crucial in all of this is the each establishment has developed a clear policy on animal experiments, which is also shared with the outside world. A well-designed strategy should be the basis for effective communication to different groups under different situations. The final diagnosis based on the correctness of the laboratory results and the microbiological examination, together with the hematological, immunological, histopathological, etc., has a major role in getting the right therapeutic protocol. In the current context, characterized by a wide etiological variety of infections, it is necessary to identify and test the sensitivity to antibiotics of pathogens isolated from different biological samples. The present study of the Microbiology Laboratory of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine Iași presents the results obtained on various strains isolated from dogs and cats with different diseases during 2017-2018. The tests performed on of 83 microbiological samples (otic, pharyngeal, cutaneous and conjunctival secretions, urine, feces, etc.) identified 107 aerobic and anaerobic bacterial strains, classified into 20 bacterial genera. The most commonly isolated aerobic bacterial species were: Staphylococcus pseudointermedius (27.10%), Streptococcus sp.gr.G (8.41), Enterococcus faecalis (4.67%), Streptococcus sp. gr.C (3.73%), Pseudomonas aeruginosa (5.60%), Klebsiella pneumoniae (2.80%). The most commonly isolated anaerobic bacterial species were: Clostridium perfringens (9.35%), Campylobacter sp. The components of the cardiovascular system should correspond to the solicitations given by the pressure and blood flow in a particular segment. If the solicitations exceed a particular threshold, the functional adaptation requires supporting morphological changes. The development of the circulatory system in lambs is correlated with the development of the digestive system, the type of nutrition and the characteristics of this species as ruminants. To capture the adaptive changes we resorted to anatomical investigations. The aim of this research was to identify and describe the particularities of the celiac artery in lambs. The study included 15 hybrid Merino lambs, 4-6 months old, sacrificed by the breeder. After removing the skin, the abdominal aorta was identified through stratigraphic dissection. Further on, latex and red coloring substance were injected. This facilitated the following stratigraphic dissection which worked towards the identification of the celiac artery with its collaterals and terminals. We identified that the celiac artery has its origin on the ventral wall of the abdominal in 3 terminal branches: the splenic artery, the hepatic artery and the left gastric artery. All terminal arteries give collaterals to the forestomach. On its trajectory the celiac artery gives only one collateral branch, the caudal phrenic artery. In conclusion, through the collaterals of aorta, near the diaphragm. From the origin, it has a ventro-caudal direction and after 2 cm it separates its terminal branches, the celiac artery is the main blood supplier to the forestomach. The investigations regarding the quality of milk and some dairy products marketed in Iasi county were carried out in the period 2018-2019, on samples collected from the commercial network of Iasi county. The collected samples were pasteurized milk 3.5% G, pasteurized milk 1.5% G, UHT milk 3.5% G and UHT milk 1.5% G. Samples of acid dairy products, namely yogurt, kefir, healthy and fermented cream samples with 12% G, 20% G and 32% G were also taken. The investigations focused on these dairy products taking into account the consumer's requirements and the significant increase in consumption of these products, representing in the diet of people products that are frequently purchased and consumed in a fairly short time. The investigations were carried out to establish the degree of freshness, integrity and we determined a series of physico-chemical parameters of dairy products. The processing of the samples was done in the Food Control Laboratory of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine Iași, where a number of 28 milk samples, 30 samples of acid dairy products and 30 tests of fermented cream were processed. Following the analysis of the samples, a number of 18 milk were physically and chemically non- conforming, and all the examined samples were organoleptic conforming. When examining the samples of acid dairy products a number of 25 samples were non-conforming for the physico-chemical parameters, and organoleptic 8 samples were non-conforming. The present study is focused on challenge testing of Nigella sativa fortified Cyprinus carpio fillets morphological quality. The challenge testing involved accelerated tests at temperature conditions other than those anticipated in the food industry (5- 10°C), including stress temperature trial (exposure to storage temperature variations) for fresh carp fillet supplemented with 0.6% v/w Nigella sativa seed oil (NSSO). Histological evaluation of muscle structure was performed at day 3 of storage, for all samples. The carp fillets were divided into two groups: control group (C), without NSSO and test group (T), fortified with 0.6% v/w NSSO, which was further divided into 4 groups, subjected to different storage temperatures: 3°C – group T1, 5°C – group T2, 7°C – group T3 and stress temperature trial (STT) – group T4. Group C (control) was stored at 0°C throughout the monitoring period. Histological evaluation of fish muscle revealed no significant differences between sample groups after three days of storage. Its action on the "infection" microorganisms found in wine cellars is demonstrated by numerous studies. The present study shows that the antiseptic potential of sulfur dioxide is highly dependent on the concentration of its free form. The high concentrations of free sulfur dioxide corroborated with the prolonged contact period lead to the killing of the yeast cells quickly and evenly, while at low concentrations its lethal effect is greatly diminished. At low concentrations the lethal effect of sulfur dioxide is highly dependent on the contact time of the yeast cells with the environment. In this case, their mortality rate is very uneven. Thus, the food industry is currently confronted with the problem of meeting consumer demands, and is trying to respond positively to their specific food requirements. Besides the aromatization function of the dishes, some spices have antiseptic and antioxidant properties, favouring digestion as well. In the present study, the qualitative analysis of spices used in the meat processing industry was followed and some of the spices used in a meat processing unit being also presented. A number of 30 spice samples represented by pepper, sweet paprika, granulated garlic and thyme were analysed, organoleptically, physicochemically (moisture, granulation, percentage of impurities, heavy metal residues and mycotoxins) and microbiological (NTG, Salmonella spp., E. coli, Enterobacteriaceae, yeasts and moulds). Regarding organoleptic parameters, the spices taken in the study are in accordance with the manufacturer's specifications, being in line with the legal provisions in force. Following the analysis of the physico-chemical parameters of the spices, no exceedances of standard values were observed, the products complying with the provisions imposed by current legislation. A medium moisture value of 5.03% was recorded for the grinded white pepper, and 4.1% for sweet paprika, both being within the admissible values. For six samples of sweet paprika were analysed included contaminants (Pb, Cd, Aflatoxin B, Ochratoxin A), the results being within the limits of admissibility, according to Regulations (EC) in force (Regulation EC No. 1881/2006, Regulation EC No. 165/2010, Regulation EC No. 594/2012). Regarding microbiological parameters, all analysed samples recorded values corresponding to the legal admissibility limits. The apartenence of guinea pigs in the Rodentia order is still a matter of debate, which determined us to shed a light on the microscopical structure of the cecum in order to understand whether this segment is responsible for most of the digestion in this species. We harvested the cecum from 5 adult guinea pigs, brought for necropsy examination in the Department of Necropsy (UASVM Cluj-Napoca). The samples were processed for paraffin embedding and stained with three different procedures: Goldner’s trichrome method, PAS reaction and Alcian blue stain. The cecum in guinea pigs presents the four characteristic tunics for the digestive tract. The cecum has a rather thin wall in guinea pigs, the mucosa being the best represented tunic. PAS-positive and Alcian blue-positive goblet cells are present in small numbers in both the surface and glandular epithelium. The obtained structural information suggests that the digestion is only partially taking place in the cecum in guinea pigs, completing the one taking place in the small intestine.
