    Management system and profitableness at the “Conservprod” LTD Company of Fălticeni – Suceava

    This study was carried out by using the Diagnosis Analysis Method, focussed on describing the structure and functionality of an economic system, its accurate characterization at the informational-decisional level, highlighting the positive and dysfunctional aspects for improving its performance, taking into account the influence of disturbing factors within the working area. The “Conservprod” LTD Company is engaged in winning a strong position on the market, retrieving investments, improving working conditions, gaining profit and purchasing performance equipment. The management methods used by the “Conservprod” LTD Company were objective-based management and product management. In order to obtain and maintain a high standard of the product quality, as well as the customer faith in the professionalism of provided services, the company had to work as efficiently as possible, on multiple levels, in accordance with a pre-established action plan. Hygiene and security measures may influence employees’ satisfaction at work that greatly depends both on the individual characteristics of each person and on those of the job profile. By means of an upstream integration action, the Company may increase the quality of raw materials and reduce its costs. The aim of the “Conservprod” LTD Company was to purchase agricultural land and to produce its own raw materials. The Company wishes to promote an upward vertical integration.

    Investigations on the histological structure of the superficial pectoral muscle in COBB-500 commercial meat-type hybrid hen

    There are few data concerning the somatic muscles and carcass quality of commercial hybrid hens. Meat quality is determined by a variety of factors, including fibre thickness and muscle fascicles. For the elucidation of some of the above-mentioned elements, we have collected histological samples of the superficial pectoral muscle from 10 individuals, males and females, belonging to the COBB-500 commercial meat-type poultry hybrid. Samples were processed by using the “paraffin section" technique, 30 histological blades being obtained. They were studied with the MC3 - type photon microscope, while the thickness of fibres and of muscle fascicles was measured by using cito- and histometric techniques. The obtained results were myocyte thickness that ranged from 31.6 to 34.08μ, according to gender. The thickness of the primary muscle fascicles ranged from 320.25 to 354μ and of the secondary muscle fascicles, from 568.25 to 628.5μ. No notable differences were found between the two genders, some being statistically significant, while others were not.

    Observations concerning the Coleoptera entomofauna where ecological control measures were applied

    Observations concerning the epigeous coleoptera found in apple tree plantations from the Fruit-Growing Research and Development Station of Fălticeni were done in 2008 from May to October, by means of Barber-type traps. A number of 10 samplings were carried out on the following dates: 30 May, 16 June, 30 June, 22 July, 1 August, 12 August, 25 August, 5 September, 18 September and 9 October. At each sampling, coleoptera species were separated by the rest of the material, the formol solution being replaced by another solution with the same concentration. During this period of observations, they collected 901 samples of coleoptera belonging to 56 species. The species with the highest number of collected samples were Pseudophonus rufipes De Geer (189 samples), Opatrum sabulosum L. (180 samples), Dermestes frischi Kugel. (78 samples), Ophonus puncticollis Payk. (67 samples), Cicindela germanica L. (56 samples), Harpalus distinguendus Duft. (43 samples), Otiorrhynchus raucus F. (37 samples), Psylliodes chrysocephala L. (34 samples), Pterostichus vulgaris L. (24 samples) and Staphylinus spp. (21 samples).

    Investigations on the fruit resistance to deformation in some sweet cherry tree varieties

    The knowledge of sweet cherry resistance to deformation was important for a good choice of means and methods of packing, storage and transportation of fresh fruits for consumption, both on internal market and for exportation. In this paper, the authors have shown the results of some determinations on fruit deformation, carried out on seven sweet cherry varieties (Cetăţuia, Cătălina, Maria, Golia, Ştefan, Bucium and Tereza), harvested at three maturation stages: before ripening (10 days before ripening), almost ripe (five days before maturity) and at maturity. We have recorded the fruit resistance to deformation at a weight below 500 g, using an original device made by the Fruit Growing Research and Development Station of Iaşi. This mechanical device can be used for measuring the resistance to deformation of the fruit belonging to some fruit species or of grapes. The fruit deformation was determined for a certain weight (in our determinations, below the weight of 500 g). By comparing the varieties between them, we found that Maria and Bucium varieties were the most resistant to deformation, at all the three harvest stages, significant differences being found, compared to the other varieties. We have used these determinations for the statistical calculation by the analysis of variance for bifactorial trials, in order to establish the most resistant varieties to fruit deformation at different harvest stages.

    The influence of the ultrasound treatment on the Norway spruce (Picea abies (L.) Karsten) seed germination

    The Norway spruce seed germination is often weak (in some years, the germination rate is less than 50%). It is already known that some physical agents had a simulative influence on the germination process. For improving the spruce seed germination, the influence of the ultrasound treatment on seed germination was tested. The tests have shown that the length of plant rootlet and hypocotyl and the germination rate of seeds depended on the frequency and duration of the ultrasound treatment. For the frequency of 35 kHz, the best results, represented by the improvement of germination and an increased length of rootlets and hypocotyls for the germinated seeds, were obtained for the treatment duration longer than 40 seconds. Thus, for the treatment duration of 50 and 60 seconds, we have obtained a germination improvement by over 40 %, an augmentation of the rootlet length by 32 % and of the hypocotyls by 5-8 %, compared to the untreated control. Because these data are only preliminary, the testing conditions and the tested species must be diversified, in order to establish regularities with practical applicability.

    Evolution of soil fertility under the influence of organic fertilizers and erosion on slope lands in the Moldavian Plain

    The influence of long-term fertilization on wheat and maize yield and soil fertility has been investigated at the Agricultural Research and Development Station of Podu-Iloaiei since 1968. The experiments have studied the influence of mineral fertilization, manure and crop residues on production, in peas-wheat-maize crop rotation and on soil fertility, on 16% slope field. Investigations were carried out on a typical Cambic Chernozem, which prevails in the Moldavian Plain and have established the fertilizer rates ensuring efficient yield increases and increasing the content of organic carbon from soil. The soil on which the experiments were set up have a clay-loam texture (420 g clay, 315 g loam and 265 g sand), a neuter to weakly acid response and a mean nutrient supply. On weakly eroded soils, the annual application of crop residues, which resulted from peas, wheat and maize crops, together with the rate of N80P60, have resulted in maintaining the content of organic content from soil at values of 18.8 g/kg soil. On highly eroded soils, the increase in the organic carbon content of soil from 18.8 to 21.6 g/kg soil was recorded by the long-term application of the rate of N80P60+60 t/ha manure. On 16% slope lands, the use of a crop structure made of 25% maize, 25% perennial grasses and legumes, 25% peas and 25 % wheat has determined the diminution by 62% of soil losses by erosion and the reduction by 61% of water runoff and mineral elements, compared to maize continuous cropping.

    Characterization of some luvisols of the Ampoi Basin, Alba county

    The Ampoi Basin is situated in the south-eastern side of the Apuseni Mountains. The bioclimatic conditions typical of this region are favourable to clay migration process. Because of the relief and parent material features, in this area there are Luvisols only on small areas, which are represented by Stagnic Luvisols and Alic- Stagnic-Albic Luvisols. In this scientific paper, we have shown the soil formation factors, which determined Luvisol development, soil morphology, physical and chemical characteristics. Stagnic Luvisols are spread on the Ampoi Terrace, on quasihorizontal area. The parent materials on which these soils developed were Holocene loamy alluvial-proluvial deposits. Land was used as hayfields. The morphological profile was represented by Ao, El, EBw and Btw horizons. Alic-Stagnic-Albic Luvisols were spread in the north side of low slopes from the Metaliferi Mountains. The parent materials on which these soils developed were loamy deluvial deposits with substratum made of Tortonian sandstone and conglomerates. Land was used as weakly developed grassland. The morphological profile was represented by Ao, Ea, EBw and Btw horizons. The bioclimatic area was represented by broadleaved trees-Quercus petraea forest. Soil response was highly acid (pH 4.7) and oligo-basic base saturation degree (V8.3=11- 23%), found in the Btw horizons contributed to frame these soils to alic soil subtype of this Luvisols. The analysed soils did not fulfil all the conditions for belonging to the Alisol class.

    Effect of force control system on power and time consumption of tree pruning machine

    This scientific paper showed the manipulator operation and the end effector of pruning machine with a force control system. The effect of the sensitivity coefficient of force control system, cutting tool rotating speed, wood diameter and the interface effects on cutting time and power consumption were analysed by Duncan’s test. Finally, we have analysed and investigated, once with variance analysis results, the system effect of force control on time and power consumption and suitable method of system usage of force control pruning machine. Based on these results, by increasing the sensitivity coefficient of the force control, the work time has increased and the power consumption has decreased. In addition, less rotational speed must be chosen in a sensitivity coefficient level. Therefore, the force control system of a tree pruning machine may be used for energy saving.

    Distribution and promoting strategy of agricultural and agro-food products (a case study at “Kosarom” Trade Company of Paşcani, Iaşi county)

    Within the marketing mix, distribution is a very important part, considering the four distinctive elements: distribution intensity, length of distribution channel, strategy of distribution and distribution control system. For the companies that improve the products, which will be processed industrially, there are many distribution circuits: traditional circuits, semi-integrated circuits and integrated circuits. In Romania, there are many forms of distribution, which are generated mostly by the type of economic agents involved in this process. The objectives of the distribution strategy were proportions and directions of the product flow (offer size, delivery rhythm, target market segment, distribution forms and path), but also providing a high quality distribution (reducing the distribution costs, increasing the adaptability of distribution system towards the changes that occur on the market, increasing the control level of an agricultural company over the distribution channel). Promotion is another important element of the marketing mix. The promotional operations are made of at least three actions: consumer’s, distributor’s and a commercial action organized by the distributor. The promotional strategy of a product may be concentrated or focused, with differences on certain segments of the market or undifferentiated. According to the used criteria, other types of promotional strategies can be used, such as strategy of exclusive promotion of a product or service, strategy of promoting the global image of a company or its extending, strategy of permanent or intermittent promotion, offensive or defensive strategy, promotion strategy by using own means or specialized agencies. Starting from these aspects, the goal of the authors was to emphasise the most significant characteristics of distribution and promotion of the agricultural and agro-alimentary products at “Kosarom” Trade Company of Paşcani, Iasi County.

    Studies regarding the sustainable development of rural tourism and agritourism in the Vatra Dornei microzone, Suceava county

    The investigations conducted at the Vatra Dornei microzone, Suceava County, which is made up of 11 administrative-territorial units (Broşteni, Ciocăneşti, Cîrlibaba, Crucea, Dorna Arini, Dorna Candreni, Iacobeni, Panaci, Poiana Stampei, Şaru Dornei and Vatra Dornei Municipality) have shown that all these localities had similar conditions as concerns soil and climatic conditions, socialeconomic development, high touristic potential and relatively low density of population (below 45 inhabitants/km2). Our studies carried out in the Vatra Dornei microzone on the sustainable development of rural tourism and agritourism showed that in the investigated area there was a specific form of agritourism, corresponding to the mountainous area, which had specific features in every village and commune. The basic element of the sustainable development within these localities was represented by a new orientation of the farm development. The agritouristic pensions from the studied area have two stars, while at Dorna Candreni, there are three starpensions (Poiana and Poiana Izvoarelor Pensions).

    Yersiniosis outbreak in rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykis) at a fish farm from Northern Romania

    Yersiniosis (Enteric diseases – red mouth) is a septicemic infectocontagious disease of salmonides, produced by Yersinia ruckeri, young rainbow trout being the most susceptible to infection. The disease appears as an exogenous or endogenous infection, influenced by favouring factors. The infection sources are represented by sick and asymptomatic carrier fishes that eliminate Yersinia through faeces, contaminating water and fodder. At the beginning of the disease outbreak, which is the subject of the present scientific paper, sudden water warming (15-17ºC) in the spring of 2008 was incriminated. The bacteriological examination carried out on the anterior kidney and heart blood from trout suspected of yersiniosis had as result the isolation of some Yersinia ruckeri bacteriological strains, confirming the suspected diagnosis, based on lesions (high degree anaemia of oral mucosa and branchia, haemorrhagia on tongue mucosa, exophthalmia and ocular haemorrhagia). The identification of the causative agent was based on morphological aspects (gramnegative, motile and rod-shaped) and distinctive metabolic characters, tested by using API galleries. Antibiogramas pointed out the Y. ruckeri strain susceptibility to Oxytetracicline, Flumequine, Trimethoprim and Ceftiofur and a medium susceptibility to Amoxicillin and Enrofloxacin.

    Clinical and biochemical studies on Theileria annulata in Egyptian buffaloes (Bubalus bubalis) with particular emphasis on oxidative stress and ketosis relationship

    This study was carried out on 68 naturally infected buffaloes with Theileria annulata, in addition to 25 parasite-free buffaloes, distributed in small herds at Dakahlia and Gharbya governorates, Egypt, to demonstrate the clinical picture associated with theileriosis, with particular emphasis on the oxidative stress and ketosis relationship. The clinical signs recorded in infected buffaloes were fever, enlargement of one or more lymph nodes, ocular discharge, corneal opacity, skin lesions, decreased milk yield, pale mucous membrane and anorexia. Blood and serum analysis revealed significant decrease in red blood cells (RBCS) and/or haemoglobin (HB) concentration in the infected animals, compared to the control ones. Moreover, a significant increase (p ≤ 0.05) was found in the levels of Malondialdehyde (MDA), beta hydroxy butric acid (BHBA) and non-esterified free fatty acid (NEFA) with a significant decrease (p ≤ 0.05) in the levels of reduced glutathione (R.GSH), superoxide dismutase (SOD), catalase (CAT), total antioxidant capacity (TAC), nitric oxide (NO), glucose and glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G6PD) in infected animals, compared to the control ones. It can be concluded that Theileria annulata plaid an imperative role in the occurrence of anaemia, oxidative stress and ketosis in Egyptian water buffaloes.

    A comparative study of an assortment of plum distilled drinks, made in Romania

    The Romanian assortment of alcoholic drinks distilled from fruits, homologated in Romania, consists in ţuica (brandy) of different assortments, fruit brandies and specific natural liqueurs. According to the existing legislation, the alcoholic concentration of 37 vol. % makes the difference between the superior distilled drinks that may have specific names, and the inferior assortments that may be called spirits. The traditional ţuica is a plum distillate, made in copper still with open fire by simple distillation, having its origin in a region situated in the Subcarpathians of Muntenia. According to Ord. 362/2008, palinca (strong plum brandy) is a traditional Romanian alcoholic drink, obtained exclusively by alcoholic fermentation and distillation of fleshy fruits, mixture of fruits or from marc of fruits or juice made of these fruits or fruit mixture, with or without stones. Şliboviţa (strong plum brandy) is a 38 % vol. or 40% vol. drink, obtained by distillation and redistilation of plum marc, in the same areas as superior brandy assortments, followed by ageing. It is produced in Balkans. In Serbia, almost 70% of the harvested plums (late varieties, Damask plums or quetsches, Prunus domestica subsp. insititia) are changed into şliboviţa.

    Uncertainty of analytical results in oenology laboratories

    The analytical results (measurements/determinations) concerning the parameters of wine chemical composition and must and wine-based products have shown some uncertainty or doubt. The oenology laboratories must determine the uncertainty of analytical results for each measured parameter, according to the used analysis method, for checking trueness and certainty of the method. In this scientific paper, the authors have shown the uncertainty calculation methodology and the interpretation of uncertainty values according to the analytical results.

    Spatial distribution analysis of the ecological factors in the Avereşti Wine Growing Centre – Huşi vineyard

    The spatial distribution of the ecological factors explain the presence in viticultural areas of “terroirs”, which are microzones with particular ecological features, favourable for wine growing, that influence the quality of grapes, as well as the authenticity of wines. The locations of these terroirs in the vineyards are usually known, but their ecological evaluation and territory delimiting are difficult to achieve. In this work, we proposed the use of the Geographic Information System (GIS), a tool of the informational technologies that allow carrying out complex analyses of the geographic areas. Using GIS, we calculated the spatial distribution of some climatic (temperature, solar radiation, insolation and rainfall) and topographic factors (altitude, slope and slope direction) for the Avereşti Wine Growing Centre and elaborated the thematic maps corresponding to the abovementioned factors. Their analysis pointed out the presence in the Averesti wine growing area of many "terroirs" with particular ecological features, some of them being favourable for the production of quality white wines, while others, for table and sparkling wines.

    Control of San José scale (Quadraspidiotus perniciosus Comst.) from apple tree plantations at the Fruit Growing Research and Development Station of Iaşi

    Many pests are found in apple tree plantations, causing important damages if chemical treatments are not applied. One of these pests is San José scale (Quadraspidiotus perniciosus Comst), which is a key pest of apple tree plantations, found on the list of quarantine pests. Its appearance in apple tree plantations is tightly related to the climatic conditions, especially to temperature. This has a determining role in the pest evolution, which may lead to major damages or even to tree death. During 2005-2007, at the Fruit Growing Research and Development Station of Iaşi, we carried out investigations on the efficiency of some insecticides for the chemical control of San José scale (Quadraspidiotus perniciosus Comst). The trial was conducted at the Sîrca Farm, in an apple tree plantation (Idared Variety). We have tested the following products of plant protection, some of them being of the latest generation: Fyfanon 50 EC at a rate of 0.225%, Novadim 40 EC – 0.2% Reldan 40 EC-0.15%, Calypso 480 SC – 0.02%, Ecalux S – 0.1% and Pyrinex 48 EC – 0.02%. The tested insecticides belonged to the group of organophosphoric products and of inhibitors of insect metamorphosis.

    Effect of municipal sewage sludge on winter rape and soybean production and heavy metal contamination of soil

    Investigations conducted during 2004-2008 at the Podu-Iloaiei Agricultural Research Station have studied the influence of different rates of sewage sludge on yield and soil agrochemical characteristics. Sewage sludge was applied annually at rates of 20, 40 and 60 t/ha, together with mineral fertilizers, differentiated according to the growing plant. Applying rates of 20 t/ha DM sewage sludge resulted in the accumulation of mobile phosphate stock in soil of 58 ppm; the microelement content (mobile forms from soil) was of 19.0 ppm at Cu, 0.51 ppm at B, 149 ppm at Zn and 397 ppm at manganese. The obtained results have shown that by applying a rate of 30 t/ha of raw sewage sludge (18.5 l t/ha dry matter), the allowable maximum limits stipulated by Norm 86/278/EEC, were not exceeded. By applying rates of 60 t/ha raw sewage sludge (37 t/ha dry matter), the limits established by Norm 86/278/EEC and Order no. 49 from January 14, 2004 have been exceeded only at zinc. The application of the rates of 40 t/ha sewage sludge has resulted in increasing the degree of plant supply by mineral elements (especially, nitrogen and phosphorus). It has also resulted in a mean annual supply of 3.8 t/ha highly humificated organic matter; this explains the increase in soil humus content (after 4 years) from 2.82 to 3.79%. The use of fermented sewage sludge, at a rate of 40 t/ha, has resulted in getting mean yield increases of 65 % (1075 kg/ha), in winter rape, and of 63 % (937 kg/ha), in soybean. For slope lands degraded by erosion, sewage sludge with other organic resources may contribute to the improvement in soil characteristics. The application of rates of 20 t/ha sewage sludge DM has resulted in the accumulation of mobile phosphates in soil of 58 ppm, and the content of microelements, mobile forms from soil, was of 19.0 ppm at Cu , 0.51 ppm at B, 149 ppm at Zn and 397 ppm at manganese.

    Studies on the establishment of conservation technologies of tillage mechanization in grain maize crop, under soil specific conditions from N-E Romania

    For establishing the best conservation technologies of tillage mechanization from NE Romania in grain maize crop, six technology variants were tested in the spring of year 2007. In each technology variant, we have determined the qualitative indices for every work equipment and the energetic and exploitation indices for each farm equipment. After crop sowing, we have determined for each variant, soil resistance to penetration, mean weighted diameter of soil structural elements and water stability of these elements. At the same time, we have determined the fuel consumption per hectare, for mechanized tillage and sowing. We have also found that when selecting the mechanization technologies of soil tillage, we should take into account the obtained seed yields. After the analysis of the obtained results, we have established the best mechanization technologies that ensured soil conservation conditions for maize crop.

    Study concerning the origins of some agricultural, horticultural and agro-food terms based on the latest Romanian etymological dictionaries

    Attributing the origin of the agricultural, horticultural and agro-food terms of the Romanian language is a controversial domain. The latest two etymological dictionaries analysing thousands of the Romanian words in terms of their origin include an approximately equal number of more than 300 terms from the above-mentioned domain. The etymological dictionary elaborated by Ciorănescu Al., 2002, gives these terms a Latin, Slavic origin or other European languages, which belong to some peoples with whom Romanians had historical relationships. This dictionary does not estimate the amount of words coming from substratum to more than 2%. The etymological dictionary elaborated by Vinereanu M., 2008, found that most of the mentioned words belonged to the pre-Latin, Thracian-Getic and Thracian-Illyrian substratum. The Latin or Slavic origin terms are found at a less proportion, as well as the mentioned terms from diverse European languages.

    The influence of Ph and temperature on Salmonella spp. from fresh, chilled and frozen poultry carcasses

    The trials were conducted in a slaughtering unit from Iaşi, where 192 samples from poultry carcasses were gathered and analysed microbiologically. Carcasses were washed in order to obtain test samples. The main sources of salmonellosis were poultry and poultry products. Salmonella is one of the most important worldwide causes of foodborne diseases. In order to reduce the contamination, we have treated experimentally the washing water with lactic acid sol. 1%. Thus, we stopped the evolution of the microorganisms susceptible to environmental pH changes. This pH change reduced the microbial load, especially of Salmonella spp,. from the surface of the carcass. The pH of the carcass washing water was 6.75; after the addition of lactic acid, it reached 2.34 and the temperature of washing water was 150C. The contamination of fresh carcasses with Salmonella spp had an incidence of 14.06%. After the treatment of washing water, it decreased until 4.6%. In case of 40C chilled carcasses, the incidence of Salmonella species in the presence of untreated carcasses was of 4.6%, being reduced to 1.5% after treatment.
