    Aminoacids profiles in wines with low content of sulphur dioxide from Panciu wine region

    In wine industry, amino-acids play an important role in one of the most important elements of wine-making as fermentation and, as a result, are involved in specificity of wine variety. In the present study, specific wine verities from Panciu wine region were included, namely: Fetească regală, Fetească regală Frizzante, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Sauvignon rose. Every type of wines was processed by classic wine making methodologies but also with a different a modified scheme in order to compensate the role of low sulphur dioxide wine variants. Levels of amino-acids were determined by GC-MS, using a specific derivatisation method and ratio of intensities of peaks, permitted the quantification of 16 principal aminoacids. Some of aminoacids as alanine, glycine, valine, leucine, threonine, lysine and serine were highly affected in terms of decrease of concentration for low sufur dioxide wines. Proline which was resulted from the fermentation process had values higher than the average content of other aminoacids, from 1515.93 mg/L to 157 mg/L. Comparing the varieties with low and standard value of sulphur-dioxide, the levels of amino acids were differently affected. As a conclusion, the analysis of samples showed that the levels of amino-acids did not affect the overall quality of some the wines, the decreased levels can be associated with the transformation on other metabolites as biogenic amines.

    Research on the quality of cold pressed sunflower flavoured oil

    Cold-pressed flavoured sunflower oil is a virgin oil that has undergone maceration by adding herbs, spices vegetable, or fruit seeds in order to extend the product’s shelf life, being considered a superior quality product. The aim of the present research was to determine, by means of sensory and physicochemical analyses, the quality of sunflower aromatized oils obtained by cold pressing. The physicochemical properties of the analysed oil assortments were represented by the following determinations: impurity content, moisture, relative density, acidity, iodine, saponification and peroxide indexes.

    Aspects regarding protected areas in Mureș county

    The present work highlights the knowledge of certain endangered plants and animals from the reserves of Mureș County. They are of particular importance due to their role in maintaining the balance of natural ecosystems. Also, an important aspect of the knowledge of the diversity of the plant and animal world, but also the knowledge of the legislation in the field of the protection of endangered species, involves the responsibility of man in terms of reducing the imbalances caused by him.

    Quinoa (Chenopodium quinoa, Willd.), needful genetic resource under the conditions of climate change

    The negative effects of climate change are a real challenge for modern agriculture today, as agriculture, in general, is severely affected. By increasing the land areas affected by drought and salinity and, consequently, reducing their fertility, as well as due to demographic growth and urbanization (migration), there is an ever-increasing demand for food for the global population. These negative effects of climate change have made the strategy of the EU and the member states to be designed in such a way as to anticipate the effects of climate change; whereas this support should address both short-term effects, such as natural disasters, and long-term effects, such as land loss due to sea-level rise or drought. In these circumstances, it is of great interest to find sustainable cultures/solutions, species with vegetable value, with a sufficiently high ecological plasticity to promote sustainable and productive agricultural ecosystems through the use of "climate-ready" model species that have the ability to respond to severe environmental conditions. A species with a similar genetic background is Chenopodium quinoa, sp., a species of South American origin, unique in the world for its potential to respond to adverse environmental conditions, such as: drought, alternating temperatures, frost, salty soils, etc.

    Possibilities to reduce the impact of external factors variation on the economic performances of agricultural producers

    Agriculture is a complex and unpredictable activity and the multiple challenges in this sector, of which climate change has a significant impact on production, are responsible for increasing the economic vulnerability of farms. This paper tries to offer some solutions on the basis of which the economic performance of agricultural producers could be less exposed to the impact of the variation of external factors. The results show that it might be possible by reorganizing the range of goods and services and substituting some production factors. The development of managerial skills and the use of relevant market information can contribute to the amplification of agricultural economic performances.

    Features and trends of the agricultural cooperative system in the European Union

    The development of the cooperative system in the agriculture of the EU countries was achieved by permanent adaptation to the socio-economic conditions specific to the territory in which it was born. As a result, community agricultural cooperatives have many common characteristics but also particularities. The changes in the agricultural and agri-food sectors have led cooperatives to focus on adopting strategies that can keep them competitive: introducing high quality standards, branding own products, emphasizing the process of vertical integration, multiplying processing operations, accepting as members farmers from outside the host countries and even abandoning the legal status of a cooperative.

    Study on the quality of some cheese produced within a traditional specific unit

    In the current paper, we proposed to study some quality parameters that characterize two traditional products for which, at the moment, there is a particularly high demand. Thus, we initially determined the quality of raw milk and later that of Telemea Cheese and Dalia Cheese assortments. The main indicators studied were percentage of water, dry matter, fat, salt, respectively acidity and density.

    The influence of PET and PS plastics on the thermoforming packaging of liquid and viscous dairy products

    Plastic has become a widely used material in the food packaging industry in the 21st century because it is easy to process, resistant to mechanical shocks, provides excellent protection for packaged food products, and is readily available. However, the use of plastic as a material for producing packaging intended to protect food products is a factor that generates large amounts of waste every year, which, if not properly managed, can have a significant polluting impact on the surrounding environment. Thus, the competent authorities of institutions responsible for environmental protection are constantly trying to find solutions to reduce the impact of plastic waste from the food industry on the environment, by decreasing the level of plastic pollution. One such solution is the use of more easily degradable plastic materials. This paper proposes studying the impact of PET (polyethylene terephthalate) and PS (polystyrene) plastics on the thermoforming process of cup-type containers and the actual packaging of liquid and viscous dairy products.

    Strategies for building sustainable urban communities through horticultural activities

    Present paper proposes a series of strategies as solutions that could increase food production while greatly reducing the environmental impacts of agriculture. From all agriculture activities, horticulture sector is characterized by a high biodiversity and is dominated by fruit and vegetable growing species. Urban horticulture brings together what used to be widely separated: food production and urban space. Broadly speaking, urban horticulture includes everything from small home gardens, community lots to the management of city parks, rooftop gardens, as well as the vertical way of production. This direction of production ensures increased availability of fresh products in big communities, raw material for processing, healthy diets, improved food safety, lower costs for transport, better use of resources, and mitigation on environmental impact of agricultural activities by reducing the emission of greenhouse gases.

    The influence of substrate type on the morphological and ornamental characteristics of some cultivars of Ipomoea batatas grown in pots

    The aim of this work was to evaluate the influence of the type of substrate on the morpho-decorative characters of three ornamental cultivars of Ipomoea batatas ('Heart Bronze', 'Black', 'Heart Lime') grown in pots. Four types of substrates were used, resulting from the mixing of various components (garden soil + peat; garden soil + peat + hydrogel; garden soil + peat + coconut fiber; garden soil + peat + coconut fiber + hydrogel). The results showed that the substrate composed of garden soil and peat favored, in all three cultivars studied, the increase in stem length and the number of leaves/plant, while in the cultivars ‘Black’ and ‘Heart Lime’, it also determined the increase in the degree of stem branching. The degree of stem branching was less influenced by the substrate, but it was dependent on the cultivar. The worst results were obtained in plants grown in a mixture composed of garden soil + peat + coconut fiber + hydrogel. Regarding the cultivars, ‘Heart Bronze’ stood out with a larger number of branches and leaves, and ‘Heart Lime’ with longer branches.

    Influence of scion/rootstock interaction on some morphological characteristics of grafted rose plants

    The main aim of this research was to determine the influence of cultivar/rootstock on the morphological characters of some Hybrid Tea varieties of roses (`Explorer', 'White Chocolate', `Nina' and `Catrina'), grafted on three biotypes of Rosa canina: one of R. canina `Laxa' and two of R. canina `Inermis' (collected from Buzău and Brașov). From the analysis of the characters of the grafted plants, a number of aspects were found: the rootstock of R. canina `Laxa' showed a larger diameter of the grafting point in all varieties; 'White Chocolate', formed the longest shoots, regardless of rootstock; the number and diameter of the shoots were the characters least influenced by the variety/rootstock influence; `Explorer' grafted on R. canina `Laxa' recorded direct correlations between the diameter of the grafting point and the number of shoots, the length of the shoots and of the internode of the shoots, the length of the shoots and the number of leaves; indirect correlations were recorded between the diameter of the grafting point and the number of shoots/plant in `Nina' and `Catrina' varieties grafted on R. canina `Laxa', and in `Explorer' and `Catrina' varieties grafted on R. canina `Inermis' (from Brașov); indirect correlations also appeared between shoot length and diameter in 'White Chocolate' grafted on R. canina `Laxa'.

    Aspects regarding the ornamental value of some Teahibrida and Floribunda rose varieties from “Tudor Neculai” nursery collection - Iasi county

    The paper presents aspects regarding the decorative value of some Teahibrida and Floribunda rose varieties, from the „Tudor Neculai” nursery collection, cultivated in Iasi region conditions. The observations regarded six rose varieties, three from the Teahibrida class: „Burgund”, „Crimson Glory” and „Grand Prix”; and three from the Floribunda class: „Betty Prior”, „Foc de Tabără” and „Rumba”. Six feature were studied defining the decorative value of these varieties: the foliage, the diseases resistance, the flowering intensity, the form of the flower, the colour of the petals and the odour.

    Studies regarding Juniperus chinensis as bonsai used in terrariums

    Juniperus chinensis is a species that can be easily managed as a bonsai. The technique of cultivating plants in the form of bonsai has been known since ancient times, from the Chinese, and the concept of the terrarium is relatively young, being known from the English. The terrarium is an innovative practice of combining the modern with the traditional art of bonsai. This experience involves creating a miniature ecosystem inside a glass container and incorporating bonsai-style directed plants as a central element of the design. By combining these two concepts, unique, miniature landscapes are created, and the style in which the bonsai are managed plays an important role in the appearance and condition of the terrarium. The current study presents aspects regarding the utilization of the Juniperus chinensis species, in the form of bonsai, in terrariums.

    Research regarding capitalization in terrariums of Ficus benjamina species as bonsai

    The technique of growing plants in the form of bonsai was introduced into Japanese culture about 12 centuries ago by the Chinese, but the terrarium first appeared in 19th century in London, when collectors of rare plants discovered that their transport can be carried out in closed containers. In the current paper, are presented aspects regarding the utilization in terrariums of the species Ficus benjamina directed in the form of bonsai. Three types of pots were used for terrariums: a closed pot, an open legless pot, and an open stemmed pot. After research, it was found that Ficus benjamina has a great capacity to adapt to the bonsai technique and in terrariums.

    Studies regarding some grape varieties and wines from historical Moldova

    Grape cultivation and wine production have held significant historical importance in the region of historical Moldova, as a central pillar of the local economy and culture. The region has become renowned for its indigenous grape varieties, Moldovan wine symbolizing the identity and hospitality of the Moldovan people, often influencing local traditions and festivities. Taking into account the eco-pedological characteristics of the Romanian Moldovan Hills Region and the Republic of Moldova, a research has been conducted into the cultivated grape varieties, the types of wines produced, as well as the existing wineries, in order to highlight technological and sensory data specific to these countries. The current study focuses on wines made from the grape varieties Fetească albă, Fetească regală, Fetească neagră, and Băbească neagră (Rară neagră), forming the basis for extensive research into the complex sensory profiles and the identification of specific aromatic descriptors for the wines produced from these four ampelographic representatives of Romania and the Republic of Moldova.

    Characterization of an assortment of garden broad bean (Vicia faba L.)

    An experiment was carried out in the experimental field of the Vegetable growing discipline, at Iasi University of Life Science, during 2022-2023, with the aim of studying the main morphological, physiological and agro-productive characteristics of an assortment of garden broad bean consisting by the following cultivars: De Monica, Karmazin, Aquadulce, Bartek, Scorpio, Witkiem Manita and Suprifin. The assortment is relatively diverse in terms of phenology, plant height, number of pods per plant, mass of green grains per pod and green grains yield (kg/ha). The most productive cultivars are: Bartek, with 7398.96 kg/ha green grains, Aqadulce, with 7272.38 kg/ha green grains, and Witkiem Manita, with 6580.35 kg/ha green grains

    Biological control of some pests on melon crops in greenhouses

    The cultivation of melons occupies an important area worldwide, the main cultivating countries being China, Turkey, Iran, India and Egypt. In Europe, Romania ranks 4th in terms of area after Spain, Italy and France. Foliar diseases of melons have a negative impact on fruit production and quality. This experiment aimed to study the efficacy of some biological plant protection products for the control of mites (Tetranychus urticae) and powdery mildew (Sphaerotheca fuliginea) on melons crops in greenhouse. The bifactorial experiment includes 7 variants, 3 biological products used to control mites: Flipper (potassium salts of C7-C20 fatty acids) 16 l / ha, Requiem prime (mixture of terpenoids QRD 460) 10 l / ha and Canelys (cinnamon extract) 0.3% and 2 biological fungicides for powdery mildew: Taegro (Bacillus amyloliquefaciens strain FZB24) 0.37 kg / ha, Sonata (Bacillus pumilus strain QST 2808) 10 l / ha, 6 foliar applications. The Flipper product 16 l / ha had a very high efficacy of over 90% in the control of the mite Tetranychus urticae, in all 3 stages: eggs, nymphs and adults. The products Taegro 0.37kg / ha and Sonata 10 l / ha had an efficacy between 73.6 and 99.9% in powdery mildew (Sphaerotheca fuliginea) control. It is recommended to use the biological products Flipper 16 l / ha, Requiem prime 10 l / ha in the control of the mite (Tetranychus urtice) and Taegro 0.37kg / ha and Sonata 10 l / ha for powdery mildew (Sphaerotheca fuliginea).

    Chemical valorification of agricultural residues - corn stalks

    The chemical industry has shown a growing interest in the valorisation of agricultural residues, specifically cereal byproducts, for their potential in the pulping and papermaking industry. This interest is driven by the abundance and cost-effectiveness of these residues. This study explores the chemical composition of corn stalks, providing compelling evidence for their potential as a feedstock in the chemical industry for the production of papermaking fiber. Various alkaline pulping processes, employing different cooking agents, were examined for their effectiveness in converting corn stalks. The study’s findings highlight the potential of using this cheap raw materials to produce high-value bio-based materials, offering substantial cost savings for the pulp and paper industry.

    Rapeseed, stands as a versatile crop cultivated worldwide for its seeds, which are rich in oil and protein. Traditionally recognized for its contributions to the agri-food industry and biofuel production, rapeseed's value extends beyond its seeds to its often-overlooked stalks. In recent years, research efforts have intensified to explore the chemical valorization of rapeseed stalks, recognizing their untapped potential as an abundant and valuable biomass resource. By overcoming technical challenges and optimizing valorization pathways, researchers can unlock the full potential of rapeseed stalks, contributing to the transition towards a bio-based economy and addressing environmental and economic challenges in agriculture and chemical industry.

    Facilitation of the rhizogenesis and caulogenesis of Epipremnum aureum by in vitro micropropagation and different Murashige-Skoog culture media formulation

    Epipremnum aureum is a houseplants cultivated in Romania for its decorative appearance given by the presence of large heart-shaped leaves. In vitro micropropagation is one of the most used laboratory techniques for the multiplication of plants under controlled conditions (humidity, temperature, photoperiod). As E. aureum is of commercial interest, in vitro micropropagation by direct organogenesis from petiole and leaf explants grown on Murashige-Skoog (MS) basal culture medium supplemented with both a carbon source (sucrose) and a gelling agent (agar-agar) is proposed. Depending on the aim, the medium was supplemented with different growth hormones. Thus, α-naphthaleneacetic acid (NAA) and 6-benzyladenine (BA) were added for rhizogenesis, and in the case of shoots regeneration the MS medium was supplemented with kinetin (Kin) and 6-benzyladenine (BA). Both root and adventitious shoot regeneration efficiency was higher from petiole explants compared to the use of leaf fragments.
